We are very happy to celebrate 80 years of serving our members. From the very beginning, taking care of our members has always been our first priority. Everyone at North Coast understands that no matter what role we play in our credit union, we are all connected to our members. We want to do everything we can to ensure our members have the financial products and services needed to enjoy financial stability and achieve their dreams.
It all started at the Bellingham Firehouse on May 19, 1939 as the City of Bellingham Employees Credit Union. Back then, loans were made out of a single cash drawer kept in a desk at the Firehouse and a loan transaction might be interrupted when the fire bell rang.
Our first Annual Meeting was held at the Bellingham Fire Department headquarters, now the location of the Syre Educational Center next to the Whatcom Museum.
Membership expanded in 1954 to include local postal and other public employees. In 1982 we changed our name to Public Employees Credit Union. In 1998, we changed our name again to North Coast Credit Union to better reflect our community charter.
Today, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the state of Washington can apply for membership.
